The New Italy Museum Incorporated Mission Statement
1. To perpetuate the spritual legacy of the Italian pioneers and families who, through corage, tenacity and community established the settlement that became "New Italy"
2. To embrace the economic and cultural contribution to Australia of all Italian Australians
3. To develop the New Italy Museum complex as aleading and economically sustainable cultural tourist experience for visitors
4. To celebrate and honour the multicultural heritage dhared by all people and acknowledge the traditional owners of the land at New Italy
The New Italy Museum Inc. (NIMI) Collection Policy
The purpose of the collection is to assist the organisation to fulfill its Mission and the Objects of its Constitution
There are two core collecting areas:
1. The story of the 1880 Marquis de Rays Expedition and settlement of expeditioners in New Italy is told in the "Museum"
2. The story of Italian Migration to the Northern Rivers region of NSW is told in the "Pavillion"
NIMI will collect objects which tell the stories of the two core collecting areas and fall within the date range:
1875 to 1955 in the Museum
1875 to 1988 in the Pavilion
Ojects are collected, maintained and displayed in accordance with The Historic New Italy Collection Policy 2023 - 2028
This policy was prepared by DN Veith and the "Museum Monday Group"
The project to develop the policy was supported by a Create NSW's Volunteer Museum Grant Project, a devolved funding program administered by Museums and Galleries off NSW on behalf of the NSW Goverment.
